Self Love Tips

Updated: Jan 21, 2022

Hello you self love angels!

We have recently received some questions on how to begin or refine this self love journey. Below are some tips that have helped me along the way. Whether this is brand new for you or you're looking for a little inspiration, I hope these help wherever you are on your path to loving yourself more intently.

These practices (along with therapy and medication) have helped me go from total self-hatred and years of intense depression to feeling good most days while riding the waves of negative emotions when they show up. Because yes, they continue to show up. ;)

Please note: I am not a medical professional. I quit my pre-med major years ago (HAHA). I am simply sharing what has worked for me.

Self love tips:

  • First off, please please please give yourself grace and compassion for wherever you’re at on your journey. You have been through a lot, overcome a lot and are doing your best. Even when it feels like you’re not, I promise that you are.

  • The next step is practicing awareness of your thoughts - how you speak to yourself matters. Are your thoughts encouraging or defeating? Which thoughts are on repeat in your head? Do certain triggers activate a negative though pattern? No judgment, just notice.

  • Once you're aware of the thoughts that are not serving you, you can begin replacing them with affirming your truth. Here’s what I believe to be true: All human beings are lovable. All human beings are worthy of a good life. All human beings are enough. These affirmations could translate to: I am lovable. I am loved. I am worthy of a good life. I am enough.

Note: At first this may seem like you're legit lying to yourself. That’s okay. It’s going to feel inauthentic especially if you don’t believe them to be true for you. But keep practicing and over time you will rewrite the narrative in your mind.

  • Utilize free resources. Find a credible source who resonates with you and begin reading, listening or watching their content to open up your mind. Some of my favorites include @the.holistic.psychologist on Instagram, Brene Brown, Glennon Doyle and Deepak Chopra.

  • Create a support system - you can create this in your current friend group if that’s available. If not, you can find a virtual one. If my blog and IG @shreelasya resonate with you, I invite you with open arms to join us. We would LOVE to have you in our community. Our page is dedicated to self love - the highs, lows and everything in between.

You got this queen. Be patient with yourself and remember this is a journey and not an overnight quick fix.

Please drop a heart if this resonated with you at all and feel free to share any comments or questions. I love you all and appreciate you being here for all of our journeys. We are in this together. Always. <3
